About

I set up Vivid Photography in 2003 to promote my particular style of photography to a wider market.

While some photographers specialise in just one or two disciplines, I find that working on a wide variety of commissions (weddings and festivals, editorial and fine art, private and corporate, animated candids and interiors/packshots) keeps me on my toes and ensures my eyes and approach are kept fresh and never become complacent or formulaic.

My photographic heroes include Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eve Arnold and Steve McCurry, all masters of the definitive moment, atmospheric light and being invisible.

Born to artist parents, I early developed an appreciation of perfect lights and harmonious lines. I then completed both a BA in English Literature at Exeter University and a diploma in photography at Exeter College, and later an HND in photojournalism at the London College of Printing.

After pursuing feature writing and editing alongside photography in the Nineties, and an inspirational 3-month photographic trip through South East Asia in 2001, I decided that capturing beauty through the lens is my major passion and devoted myself to this full-time.

Having moved to scintillating Brighton in 2003, I went on to regularly photograph feature and social event material for The Insight and Absolute magazines, alongside wedding, PR and packshot photography, and boutique hotel and travel footage for i-escape.com, and in 2005 and 2006 was also the official event photographer for Southwark Council. Then, in 2007, love trumped location and I moved back to London to live with my partner Simon.

I have so far held 3 group and 4 solo exhibitions of fine art photographic prints: Stealing Beauty at the Brighton Media Centre, Earthly Magic at the Brighton Artists Gallery (while BAG's Artist-in-Residence), Towerblock Art 1 & 3 (as part of the Brighton Fringe Festivals), the Spring Exhibition at Brighton Racecourse, and Colour Me Happy and Abstract Organics at Brighton's Coach House.

Dedicated practice has made me equally good at blending in with the scenery and anticipating, creating and capturing moments of photogenic magic, while my appreciation of vivid colour, fresh angles and satisfying lines also equips me to produce striking images to commercial briefs. I work with assistants and other professional photographers affiliated to Vivid Photography where required.

Thankyou for your interest and for visiting the Vivid site, and we look forward to hearing from you.
